Upcoming Netflix Series “The Trunk” Offers More Glimpses of Seo Hyun Jin and Gong Yoo
The anticipation for the upcoming Netflix series “The Trunk” continues to build with the release of first-look images showcasing the on-screen couple Seo Hyun Jin and Gong Yoo. This highly anticipated drama is based on a novel by Kim Ryeo-ryeong and revolves around a mysterious marriage service intertwined with the enigmatic presence of a trunk.
The series centers on Noh In Ji, played by Seo Hyun Jin, who works for NM (New Marriage) and engages in contract marriages every year. Despite living with a “contract husband,” Noh In Ji grapples with profound loneliness and isolation. In a striking contrast, Gong Yoo portrays Han Jeong Won, a man who enters this contract marriage as an ironic attempt to salvage his previous relationship. Seo Hyun Jin described her character as someone paralyzed by fear but inherently altruistic, reflecting a complex emotional landscape. She expressed her desire to keep her portrayal minimal: “Noh In Ji lacks courage and is very fearful, yet has a strong sense of altruism. If my character’s emotion is 100, I wanted to express just one-tenth of it, keeping it minimal.” This approach aims to vividly capture the nuanced feelings of desolation and longing that come with her character’s experiences.
Gong Yoo offered insights into his character as well, describing Han Jeong Won as “emotionally unstable, lonely, and desolate.” He elaborated, saying, “I portrayed him while thinking of him as someone with strong self-defense mechanisms who doesn’t reveal his true self or feelings.” This deep dive into the emotional fabric of the characters is expected to resonate with audiences and amplify the drama’s suspenseful narrative.
