With just five months remaining until his official discharge from military service, global star Cha Eun woo has selected his comeback project. According to an exclusive report by MyDaily on August 11, the actor is currently preparing to lead the upcoming romance drama Seorabeol Knife.

The series has already sparked immense industry buzz as it marks the next project from director Jang Tae yoo, who previously helmed last year’s massive rating hit The Tyrant’s Chef (which peaked at an extraordinary 17.1% viewership rating).

Following his appearance in Netflix’s Wonderfuls (which aired during his military enlistment), Seorabeol Knife represents Cha Eun woo’s formal return to television acting.

While the actor has tackled diverse roles across various genres—ranging from an exorcist priest in Island to a high school mathematics teacher in A Good Day to Be a Dog—this will mark his very first time leading a culinary-themed romance. Despite receiving an overwhelming influx of offers from major production houses worldwide, Cha Eun woo ultimately selected Seorabeol Knife as his flagship return.

While fan anticipation for his acting return is high, industry observers are also noting the public context surrounding his upcoming comeback following recent tax-related developments.

In January, Cha Eun woo was notified by the National Tax Service (NTS) of an additional income tax assessment exceeding 20 billion won. At the time, the actor stated, “I respect the procedures and findings of the National Tax Service. To prevent further confusion, I have paid the full amount of the assessed taxes.”

However, earlier this month, it was revealed that Cha Eun woo filed an appeal with the Tax Tribunal challenging a portion of the tax assessment. Seeking a formal legal review through established administrative procedures, he filed a petition asserting that approximately 13 billion won of the additional tax burden was improperly levied.
