A Bitter Farewell Gift: Enlisted Lee Jun young Speaks on His Final Role in Four Hands Two Sonatas
Even while serving in the military, actor Lee Jun young is set to make a massive impact on the small screen this autumn.
Ahead of the premiere of tvN’s upcoming weekend youth music drama Four Hands Two Sonatas, the production team shared Lee Jun young’s heartfelt thoughts regarding his character and why he chose this series as his final acting project before enlisting in the South Korean Army on July 21, 2026.
Set in an elite arts high school, Four Hands Two Sonatas follows the intense rivalries, friendships, romance, and growth of teenage musical prodigies.
Why Four Hands Two Sonatas Was a Must-Choose Project
Reflecting on his decision to join the drama, Lee Jun young revealed that working with actors his own age was a major dream:
“While I learned so much working alongside senior actors in my previous projects, I had a strong desire to act alongside peers of my own age before my military enlistment. Right at that perfect moment, I encountered ‘Four Hands Two Sonatas’.”
His personal passion for music also fueled his decision: “The charming subject of music reignited my sense of challenge as an actor, so I chose it without hesitation.”
Meet Choi Jeong yo: A Wild Pianist Frozen in Time
Lee Jun young stars as Choi Jeong yo, a gifted young pianist who once turned his back on the instrument that defined his life. After transferring to Korea Arts High School, he finds himself standing before the piano keys once again.
Describing his character’s internal struggles, Lee Jun young shared:
“For Jeong yo, the piano is something he desperately wants to face, yet feels he cannot. After an incident caused him to distance himself from music, he remained frozen in that moment—until he meets Kang Bi o (Song Kang) and begins to heal.”
Summing up Jeong yo in one single keyword, Lee Jun young chose “Freedom,” explaining that it best reflects a young artist who refuses to be bound by conventional rules or rigid expectations.
Discovering the Power of Classical Music
Preparing for the role of a classical prodigy transformed Lee Jun young’s personal listening habits. While he previously had little exposure to classical music, immersing himself in the character altered his perspective:
“As I immersed myself in Jeong yo’s emotional arc, I naturally found myself searching for and listening to classical pieces. That was when I realized just how powerful classical music really is. It was a deeply meaningful experience that taught me a new level of emotional resonance.”
Concluding with his hopes for the series, Lee Jun young added, “I want to hear viewers say, ‘This actor can pull off a role like this too.’ It would mean the world to me if I’m remembered as an actor without limits.”
