Dancing with the Tide: Lu Yu Xiao & Tan Jian Ci Begin Filming
The highly anticipated historical Chinese drama Dancing with the Tide has officially begun filming, marking the start of production on one of the most talked-about adaptations of the year. Based on the popular novel by Xian Yu Ke, the series promises a sweeping tale of loyalty, betrayal, and transformation set against the turbulent backdrop of a collapsing dynasty.
Set in Lidu Prefecture, the story unfolds during a time of political upheaval. Enemy forces press from outside the city walls, while spies infiltrate from within, threatening the fragile stability of the realm. Amid this chaos, General Xie Que Shan, branded a traitor despite his devotion to protecting the country, finds himself entangled with Nan Yi, a resilient young woman who accidentally comes into possession of a secret letter. To maintain control of the situation, Xie Que Shan confines Nan Yi within the Xie residence, but her presence soon exposes the hidden truths behind his carefully guarded mask.
Xie Que Shan is portrayed as a man of contradictions—a courageous general who sacrifices himself for his nation, yet walks alone under the crushing weight of misunderstanding and suspicion. Nan Yi, in contrast, is a woman of remarkable strength and endurance. Her journey takes her from mere survival to self-discovery, as she breaks free from her cocoon and transforms in the midst of turmoil. Together, their fates intertwine in a narrative that blends suspense, romance, and the struggle for redemption.
At the drama’s launch event, lead actor Tan Jian Ci expressed his excitement about the role: “I have a feeling I’ve come across a role that will be unforgettable. I feel truly happy to be able to play Xie Que Shan.” Co-star Lu Yu Xiao, who plays Nan Yi, also shared her admiration for the character: “I really love Nan Yi. She has a toughness that can root itself deep into the soil and also a gentleness that grows toward the sun.”
The cast lineup is extensive and impressive. Alongside Lu Yu Xiao and Tan Jian Ci, the drama features Zhao Zhao Yi, Yin Hao Yu, Cao Jun, and Xu Zheng Xi. Special appearances include Li Meng as a specially invited lead, Ye Zu Xin in a surprise starring role, He Qiu in a special starring role, Chen Shu in a special appearance, Wang Jin Song in a specially invited role, Zhou Cheng Ao in a specially invited starring role, and Zheng Ye Cheng in a cameo.
With its rich source material, complex characters, and a cast of seasoned actors, Dancing with the Tide is poised to deliver a gripping historical drama that explores themes of identity, resilience, and the blurred lines between loyalty and betrayal. Fans of Chinese period dramas can look forward to a production that combines emotional depth with grand storytelling.
Stay tuned for more updates as filming progresses and the series moves closer to its highly anticipated release.
