Even today, he doesn’t socialize much. In fact, I was quite like him when I started out. But I soon realized my time was different, and I needed to do things that my dad didn’t.”

After Hulchul (2004), he grew disillusioned with the offers coming his way and chose to transition fully into Punjabi cinema. That move brought him immense respect and fulfillment. “That turban brought him immense respect and love, something I feel he didn’t receive at the same level in Hindi cinema,” Kanwar says, noting how his father found a new sense of belonging in his homeland.
For Kanwar, success is not about fleeting milestones or visibility. It is about continuity, legacy, and the ability to make his family proud. “I feel I am living my journey through my father’s vision,” he explains. “If I am where I am today, it’s almost as if he is living that journey through me. He has often said that I am living the dreams he could not fulfill, and hearing that means everything to me. For me, that is the biggest award.”
