To My Beloved Thief Episode 9–10 Recap: Tragedy and Romance
The KBS 2TV weekend miniseries To My Beloved Thief has reached a critical turning point with Episodes 9 and 10, weaving together themes of love, grief, and peril. The story of Hong Eunjo (Nam Ji Hyun) and Do Wol Daegun Lee Yeol (Moon Sang Min) continues to unfold against the backdrop of tragedy and royal intrigue, leaving viewers deeply invested in their fate.
Episode 9: A Trial of Love and Loyalty
Episode 9 revealed the growing bond between Eunjo and Lee Yeol, even as danger surrounded them. Eunjo, caught in a violent confrontation, nearly lost her life before Yeol intervened, shielding her from a barrage of arrows. Grateful yet worried, Eunjo teased him with, “Next time, use your specialty—running away,” while Yeol confessed, “You keep giving me courage,” hinting at his growing affection.
Their relationship deepened as Eunjo reflected on moments when Yeol’s words and actions stirred her heart. She secretly treasured the marriage proposal letter he had given her, a symbol of her true feelings. Yet Yeol faced a painful dilemma. Eunjo’s father, Hong Minjik (Kim Seok Hun), had rejected his proposal and asked him to stay away from his daughter. Bound by this request, Yeol resolved to leave for studies abroad, despite his desire to remain by Eunjo’s side.
On the eve of his departure, Yeol sought Eunjo out one last time. Amidst the bustling marketplace, people released lanterns carrying their wishes. Eunjo wrote her own heartfelt wish and watched it ascend, unaware that Yeol was silently saying farewell with a bittersweet smile.
Tragedy soon struck. Minjik, returning from a meeting with King Lee Gyu (Ha Seok Jin), was carried home lifeless on the back of his son Hong Daeil (Song Ji Ho). Eunjo collapsed in grief, her family devastated by the sudden loss of their pillar. Though she tried to prepare for her father’s funeral, her empty expression revealed the depth of her sorrow.
Episode 10: Grief Turns to Recklessness
Episode 10 opened with Eunjo’s trademark bright smile gone, replaced by a hollow gaze. Raised by a noble father and a commoner mother, she had always embodied kindness and resilience. But Minjik’s death shattered her world. In a shocking moment, Eunjo seized the arrow lodged in her father’s body and aimed it at King Lee Gyu, standing below the cliff.
The impulsive act stunned everyone. Fortunately, Yeol threw himself in front of the king, preventing a disastrous assassination attempt. Eunjo’s reckless grief underscored her fragile state, and her actions threatened to spiral further until her emotions could settle.
Images from the episode showed Eunjo staring blankly, unable to shed tears, while her friend Shin Haerim (Han So Eun) looked on with concern. Their friendship, built across social divides, highlighted the compassion surrounding Eunjo even in her darkest hour.
Meanwhile, the royal brothers Lee Gyu and Lee Yeol faced their own turmoil. Confusion clouded Gyu’s expression, while Yeol bore the weight of guilt and resignation, knowing his brother’s actions had led to the death of Eunjo’s father.
A Future in Jeopardy
Episodes 9 and 10 of To My Beloved Thief delivered emotional highs and devastating lows. Eunjo’s grief-driven recklessness, Yeol’s selfless protection, and the royal family’s entangled guilt set the stage for an uncertain future. The romance between Eunjo and Yeol, already tested by bloodshed and betrayal, now faces even greater obstacles.
As the series continues, viewers are left wondering whether Eunjo can overcome her sorrow, whether Yeol can reconcile his duty with his love, and how the shadow of King Lee Gyu’s actions will shape their destinies.
To My Beloved Thief airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 PM on KBS 2TV.
