Get ready for a chaotic, contractual romance! SBS’s new romantic comedy, “Would You Marry Me,” is set to premiere soon, and it’s already serving up some high-stakes drama. The show follows the story of a man and a woman who enter into an absurd 90-day fake marriage, all for the chance to win a luxurious newlywed home.
The Players and the Proposal
Choi Woo Shik stars as Kim Woo Joo, the seemingly indifferent heir to one of South Korea’s oldest bakeries. Meanwhile, Jung So Min plays Yoo Mary, a determined small business owner with a problem—and an unusual solution.
Yoo Mary’s story begins with heartbreak. She wins first place in a newlywed home lottery just as she breaks off her engagement to her cheating fiancé, also named Kim Woo Joo. Desperate not to lose the home of her dreams, she comes up with a wild plan: she approaches a different Kim Woo Joo (played by Choi Woo Shik) and asks him to be her husband.
Newly released stills from the drama capture the exact moment this outlandish proposal takes place. Yoo Mary’s expression is a mix of tearful desperation and hope as she gazes at Kim Woo Joo, who looks utterly bewildered. Despite her best “Puss in Boots”-esque attempts to win him over, he seems completely unimpressed, responding to her abrupt request with a stunned silence.
What makes this situation even more absurd is that this is only the second time the two have ever met. Will Kim Woo Joo go along with her crazy plan? And will their temporary, contractual marriage turn into something real?
Find out how this unlikely partnership begins when “Would You Marry Me” premieres on October 10 at 9:50 p.m. KST on SBS!
