Boyfriend on Demand: BLACKPINK Jisoo and Seo In-guk Star in Netflix’s Virtual Romance Comedy
Netflix is set to release its new romantic comedy series Boyfriend on Demand on Friday, March 6. Starring BLACKPINK’s Jisoo in the lead role alongside Seo In-guk, the series blends the relatable struggles of modern office life with the thrilling escapism of virtual romance. Directed by Kim Jung-sik, known for Work Later, Drink Now and No Gain, No Love, the drama promises a refreshing take on love, fantasy, and self-discovery.
The Story

At the center of Boyfriend on Demand is Mi-rae (played by Jisoo), a webtoon PD worn down by the monotony and exhaustion of real life. Seeking relief, she subscribes to a virtual dating simulation service called “Boyfriend on Demand,” which allows users to experience dreamlike dates in a digital world. The series title doubles as the name of this in-story subscription service, offering viewers a clever and immersive concept.
Through this unique setup, the drama explores the idea of “subscribing to romance” in a virtual space, layered over the everyday realities of office workers. This juxtaposition creates a narrative that is both relatable and fantastical, promising audiences heart-fluttering excitement and moments of escapism.
Posters and Teaser Trailer

The first poster and teaser trailer, released ahead of the premiere, highlight the series’ fresh and intriguing concept. In the poster, Mi-rae is shown deep in thought, accompanied by a checklist diagnosing her relationship status. The checklist resonates with modern viewers who often find dating exhausting, while the tagline, “If even one applies to you, subscribe now,” cleverly sparks curiosity and the desire to join the service.

The teaser trailer expands on this idea, showing Mi-rae stepping directly into scenes reminiscent of a romance webtoon. From a cherry blossom-filled spring campus to a seaside moment just before a kiss, the exhausting realities of daily life fade away as dreamlike dates unfold before her eyes. The sweet prompt, “Who would you like to date today?” teases a new dopamine rush for those who may find romance tiring but still crave the thrill of love.
Cast and Characters
Jisoo, who plays Mi-rae, described the series as “a bubbly romantic comedy about Mi-rae, who desires romance and dopamine but grows as she faces realistic problems, while also offering a wide variety of visual fun.” She emphasized that the drama is designed to vicariously satisfy viewers’ longing for excitement, particularly those weary of repetitive daily routines.

Seo In-guk, who plays Kyung-nam, echoed this sentiment, calling Boyfriend on Demand “a project with a uniquely appealing concept.” He explained, “It’s fascinating because it shows romance in both virtual reality and the real world at the same time. The key viewing points are the settings and story that move back and forth between reality and the virtual world.”
With its innovative premise, strong cast, and the creative direction of Kim Jung-sik, Boyfriend on Demand is poised to deliver a romantic comedy unlike any other. By combining the relatable struggles of modern life with the fantasy of virtual dating, the series offers both escapism and emotional resonance.
Boyfriend on Demand, starring Jisoo and Seo In-guk, will be available exclusively on Netflix starting Friday, March 6.
