Portraits of Delusion: Kim Seonho and Suzy Lead Disney Plus Mystery Drama Amid Controversy
Disney Plus is preparing to unveil Portraits of Delusion, a highly anticipated mystery drama set in 1935 Gyeongseong. However, the project has recently drawn attention not only for its star-studded cast and intriguing storyline but also for the controversy surrounding lead actor Kim Seonho.
On February 3, Disney Plus representatives confirmed that the drama’s release schedule has not yet been finalized. They stated, “The specific release date for Portraits of Delusion has not been confirmed. We will provide updates when available.” This cautious stance comes amid growing speculation that the drama’s timeline may be affected by ongoing allegations against Kim Seonho.
Portraits of Delusion tells the story of painter Yoon Yiho, who is commissioned to create a portrait of Song Jeonghwa, a captivating woman shrouded in rumors and mystery. For more than half a century, Jeonghwa has remained hidden from the outside world, her life surrounded by whispers of intrigue. As Yiho delves deeper into her enigmatic existence, he uncovers secrets that blur the line between reality and illusion. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Han Jaerim, the drama features Kim Seonho and Suzy in the leading roles, raising expectations for a visually rich and emotionally layered production.
Although the series was included in Disney Plus’s 2024 lineup, no concrete release date was announced. The uncertainty has intensified following reports that Kim Seonho allegedly established a performance planning company registered under his Yongsan residence. Media outlets claimed that the company’s funds were used to pay his parents substantial monthly salaries and cover living and entertainment expenses through corporate credit cards, sparking suspicions of tax evasion.
Kim Seonho’s agency, Fantagio, responded by clarifying that the company was originally created for theater production and related activities. They emphasized that it was not intended for tax evasion and noted that the business had ceased operations over a year ago, with closure procedures currently underway. Despite this explanation, public debate continues, and the controversy remains unresolved.
Beyond Portraits of Delusion, Kim Seonho is also set to appear in the six-part drama Unfriend alongside Park Gyuyoung, as well as tvN’s upcoming series Assemblyman, Please Protect Us. These projects highlight his continued presence in the industry despite the challenges posed by recent allegations.
