The Ahjussis Are Back in MBC’s Hilarious New Teaser for “Fifties Professionals”
If you thought the 2025 MBC Drama Awards were just about trophies and red carpets, think again. MBC decided to drop a literal bomb of excitement by revealing the first look at their upcoming action-comedy, “Fifties Professionals” (literal translation). And let me tell you, if you’re a fan of “old-school cool” mixed with laugh-out-loud comedy, this is about to become your new personality.
The teaser introduces us to a trio of middle-aged men who look like your average neighborhood uncles but are actually three of the most dangerous individuals to ever walk the earth. Forget the young flower boys for a second; the “Ahjussis” are reclaiming their throne!
Meet the Most Dangerous Neighborhood Uncles
Set on the remote, scenic, and probably-too-quiet Yeongseon Island, the drama follows three legendary men who were once at the absolute peak of their careers. After a mysterious incident 10 years ago, they were exiled to this island, forced to live mundane lives while nursing a bittersweet grudge against the past.
1. The Chef with a License to Kill (Shin Ha Kyun)
First up, we have Shin Ha Kyun starring as Jung Ho Myung. Back in the day, he was the National Intelligence Service’s (NIS) top black agent—the kind of guy who could take down a room with a toothpick. Now? He’s the head chef of a busy Chinese restaurant on the island. He spends his days tossing noodles and hiding his identity, but don’t let the apron fool you. He’s secretly hunting for the “item” that framed him and ruined his life a decade ago.
2. The Amnesiac “Human Weapon” (Oh Jung Se)
Then there’s the comedy king Oh Jung Se playing Bong Je Soon. He was once “Bulgae,” North Korea’s most lethal human weapon. However, after a mission went south, he ended up stranded on the island with a total case of amnesia. Now, he’s just a guy struggling with a demanding boss and trying to figure out why he has such elite muscle memory. Watching him piece together his terrifying past while dealing with everyday inconveniences is going to be pure gold.
3. The Convenience Store Gangster (Heo Sung Tae)
Rounding out the trio is Heo Sung Tae as Kang Beom Ryong. He used to be the second-in-command of the notorious Hwasang Gang. Now, he’s running a convenience store. He moved to the island specifically to find Ho Myung and that mysterious “item” for revenge, all while staying loyal to his boss who is currently behind bars. Imagine the guy from Squid Game scanning your barcode and asking if you want a plastic bag—that’s the vibe!
“We Haven’t Disappeared”: The Teaser Breakdown
The teaser, which premiered on December 30, starts with a high-stakes flashback. We see a younger Jung Ho Myung being told, “You’re the only person who can succeed in this mission.” With the classic weariness of a hero, he asks, “This is the last time, right?” Spoiler alert: it definitely wasn’t.
The video then fast-forwards to the present day, showing our three leads living their seemingly “boring” lives as a chef, a confused employee, and a shopkeeper. The caption that flashes across the screen is enough to give you chills: “We’ve been forgotten, but we haven’t disappeared.”
It’s a perfect setup for an underdog story. These men have been pushed aside by society and the passage of time, but their skills (and their grudges) are sharper than ever. The teaser ends on a surprisingly poignant yet funny note, with a voice-over reminding the group (and the audience) that being 50 isn’t the end: “Hey, we’ve still only come halfway.”
Why This Is a Must-Watch in 2026
Why should you be hyped? Because the chemistry between Shin Ha Kyun, Oh Jung Se, and Heo Sung Tae is a once-in-a-lifetime casting miracle. These are three of the best character actors in South Korea, and putting them together in a “bittersweet and comedic quest” is a recipe for a massive hit.
“Fifties Professionals” explores the idea that life doesn’t stop at 50—sometimes, the second half of the game is where the real action happens. Whether they’re uncovering political conspiracies or just trying to survive the island’s gossip mill, these men are proving that they are still very much “professionals.”
“Fifties Professionals” is slated to premiere in the first half of 2026. Mark your calendars, because these uncles are about to show the world how it’s done!
