Hwang Min-hyun, who became the breakout star of Season 1, once again takes center stage in Season 2. After returning to the screen last December, he chose Study Group without hesitation as his comeback project, proving his deep connection to the role and the series.

In Season 1, Hwang Min-hyun captivated audiences by perfectly embodying Yoon Ga-min—a character whose neat, studious appearance concealed overwhelming fighting skills. Nicknamed the “hidden powerhouse nerd” (힘숨찐), Ga-min became widely regarded as Hwang’s career-defining role. With Season 2, anticipation is mounting over how he will evolve the character and deliver fresh layers of intensity.

According to production company YLAB, Season 2 will see Yoon Ga-min and his loyal Study Group members facing an even greater threat. No longer confined to the notorious Yuseong Technical High School, the group must now confront a nationwide network of dangerous forces that threaten students across Korea.

The producers teased that viewers can expect exhilarating “cider action”—a Korean term for cathartic, justice-driven fight sequences. They also revealed that Season 2 will explore Ga-min’s inner dilemmas, including the true reason behind his relentless desire to excel academically, alongside more dazzling and complex action choreography.

From Webtoon to Global Hit

Study Group is based on the popular webtoon of the same name, which tells the story of Yoon Ga-min, a boy desperate to study well but cursed with natural fighting talent. At Yuseong Technical High, one of the toughest schools in Korea, he forms a study group to protect his friends and pursue his dream of academic success.

Season 1 became an instant sensation upon release. Within its first week, TVING subscriptions and unique viewers doubled, and the series held the No.1 spot for five consecutive weeks. Internationally, it ranked in the weekly Top 5 across 147 countries, including the United States, Brazil, the UK, and France—cementing its status as a global K-drama phenomenon.

The show’s faithful adaptation of the webtoon, combined with exhilarating fight sequences, earned rave reviews from overseas fans. It was even recognized by TIME magazine as one of the Top 10 Best K-Dramas of 2025, and went on to win the Best Streaming Original Drama Award at the 2025 Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA).
