SBS’s Phantom Lawyer Premieres March 13—A Legal Thriller with Supernatural Secrets

SBS is set to launch its highly anticipated new Friday–Saturday drama Phantom Lawyer on March 13 at 9:50 PM KST. Blending courtroom suspense with supernatural intrigue, the series follows two contrasting attorneys whose fractured pasts and hidden scars collide in a story of justice, obsession, and redemption.

At the center of Phantom Lawyer is Shin I Rang, portrayed by Yoo Yeon Seok. Known as the “possessed lawyer,” Shin I Rang takes on cases that unravel the unresolved grudges of the dead. His character poster captures this duality with the striking line, “Do you still see me as a lawyer?” The polished image of a man in a suit begins to crack, revealing fragments of his other identities: a bandaged cheek, a doctor’s gown, an idol badge, and even shamanic symbols. These fractured visuals symbolize his unpredictable nature, shaped by the voices of the departed that often possess him.

Shin I Rang’s journey, however, did not begin with supernatural powers. His father, once a prosecutor, died dishonorably, plunging the family into ruin. Despite his resentment toward the law, he watched his mother, Park Kyung Hwa (played by Kim Mi Kyung), remain in Seocho-dong, unable to escape her own grief. Determined to restore her dignity, he vowed to become a successful lawyer. Ironically, instead of resolving his mother’s sorrow, he now finds himself unraveling the grudges of the dead. This twist of fate raises anticipation for the cases he will confront and the emotional battles that lie ahead.

Opposite him stands Han Na Hyun, played by Esom, a cold and elite attorney from the prestigious Taebaek law firm. Her poster contrasts her flawless exterior with a visible crack across her face, hinting at a deeper vulnerability. The line, “Lawyer, it was originally my sister’s dream,” reveals her hidden backstory. Na Hyun’s life was shaped by tragedy: a youthful accident claimed her sister’s life while she survived, burdened with guilt. Discovering her sister’s diary, which contained the vow to become the best lawyer, she chose to fulfill that dream in her sister’s place.

The poster imagery of a guitar case and diary behind Na Hyun underscores this painful past. Once filled with music and hope, her youth was shattered, and she redirected her life to honor her sister’s ambition. Now, as she rises as Taebaek’s ace attorney, her rigid path collides with Shin I Rang’s unconventional methods. His unpredictable actions begin to fracture her carefully constructed world, forcing her to confront emotions long suppressed.

The production team emphasized that these posters symbolize more than professional roles. Shin I Rang absorbs the stories of others, often at the cost of his own stability, while Han Na Hyun carries the weight of another’s dream, confining herself in the process. Their cracks are not signs of destruction but of transformation. As the drama unfolds, viewers will witness how these two lawyers confront each other’s fractures, reshaping their destinies in unexpected ways.

With its mix of supernatural elements, emotional depth, and courtroom drama, Phantom Lawyer promises to continue SBS’s legacy of compelling legal series. The premiere on March 13 is expected to deliver a powerful narrative where justice is intertwined with the voices of the past, and where love, guilt, and redemption converge in a thrilling adventure.
