Lee Jun Young has been officially cast as the male lead in the upcoming drama, “The New Employee Chairman Kang” (literal translation). The production team confirmed the news on September 10, building anticipation for this new series.
A Tale of Two Lives
The drama tells the unique story of Kang Yong Ho, the brilliant and highly successful chairman of the major conglomerate Choi Sung Group. Despite his genius, his life is upended by an unexpected accident that forces him into an unwanted second life.
Lee Jun Young will take on a challenging dual role, playing both Kang Yong Ho and Hwang Joon Hyun. Hwang Joon Hyun is a soccer player for the first-division club FC Choiseong. After a collision, his soul is swapped with that of the chairman. This leaves the energetic young soccer player, who should be on his way to the Premier League, living as a new employee in a major corporation. With the mind of a seasoned executive in the body of a young athlete, Hwang Joon Hyun will become a game-changing “new hire,” creating an unpredictable and thrilling storyline.
The production team shared that the drama will deliver a “thrilling catharsis” as it explores the “extra time” in life brought on by this wild card. “The New Employee Chairman Kang” is based on a popular web novel by author San Kyung, who also wrote the hugely successful “Reborn Rich.” The drama adaptation of “Reborn Rich” was a massive hit in 2022, reaching a peak viewership rating of 26.9 percent. This connection to a proven success story has many fans eagerly awaiting the new series.
Additionally, actress Jung Chaeyeon is currently in talks to join Lee Jun Young in the drama, which would further bolster the show’s cast.
