Sai Ketan Rao : Audience couldn’t digest Agasthya’s death in Imlie

Imlie had a successful run, showcasing three generations in the storyline. However, with the introduction of third-generation characters Sai Ketan Rao and Adrija Roy, the decision to end the show has been made. In an exclusive interview with ETimes TV, Sai Ketan Rao shared insights into his journey on the show, the reason for its conclusion, his favorite character, and more.

“It’s been an amazing experience. I am grateful to the makers Gul Khan Ma’am, Karishma Jain, and my director Ashish Srivastava. Playing two completely different characters in one show is a unique opportunity that I am truly grateful for. Both Agasthya and Surya were characters that were poles apart, and I enjoyed portraying both, especially Agasthya,” Sai Ketan Rao expressed.

Donned a wig to portray Agasthya on screen, fully embracing the character and committing to the role. The decision to switch from extensions to a wig proved to be a wise choice, as it not only looked great but also saved from the discomfort caused by the former. The transformation into Agasthya was a fulfilling experience, and I was delighted with the final result.

Reflecting on my journey through various shows, including Mehndi Hai Rachne Waali and Chashni, I have gained valuable insights and lessons that have enriched my acting skills. Working on Imlie has been a unique experience, especially under Gul ma’am’s creative vision. The unconventional approach to filming, resembling that of a web series, presented new challenges and opportunities for growth. Adapting to the fluidity of camera angles and settings in this show has been an eye-opening experience, requiring constant vigilance and flexibility on set.

Sai mentioned that the show may be going off-air due to a decline in TRP ratings. He believes that while there are other shows with unique concepts that are popular, sometimes it comes down to the unpredictability of audience preferences. Sai also suggests that the audience may not have accepted Agasthya’s death in the show, leading to a decrease in viewership.

Regarding the delayed establishment of Surya’s character, Sai explained that it takes time to build a storyline and engage viewers. Fans were just starting to appreciate the relationship between Surya and Imlie, with even Sai’s own family members praising the storyline. However, Sai feels that if this development had occurred sooner, it could have potentially changed the TRP ratings for the show.
